Jazz Bands
Jazz Laboratory (full-year; 1.0 credit) is the introductory Jazz course designed to develop students’ technique for playing brass, woodwind, and percussion instruments, and introduce various jazz styles, primarily for concert performances. This is the introductory jazz course for committed band students who plan to audition for Jazz Ensemble in the future, and as such, extended instrumentation (flute, oboe, clarinet, bass clarinet, bassoon, euphonium, percussion, and strings) is allowed. Attendance at various concerts and experiences outside of the normal school day is required. Instructor approval is required.
Jazz Ensemble (Jazz Band) (full-year; 1.0 credit) is designed to cultivate advanced students’ technique for playing brass, woodwind, and percussion instruments, improvisation, basic jazz concepts and articulation, and explore a variety of new musical styles, primarily for concert performances. Attendance at various concerts and experiences outside of the normal school day is required. Enrollment is by audition only. Instructor approval is required.
