SWEETS GALORE AT ‘CANDY LAND’ HOMECOMING PARADE
The 2024 Westminster Public Schools Homecoming Parade provided plenty of smiles, cheers, and yes, candy as students and staff rolled through the streets of old Westminster on Saturday, September 21st to kick off a week of events celebrating Westminster High School.
As a bonus, Westminster Mayor Nancy McNally served as Grand Marshall for the parade. As she has done year and year out, she asked City Council member Dave DeMott to join her.
“Mayor McNally has been such a strong supporter of Westminster Public Schools, we thought that asking her to serve as our Grand Marshall was a perfect way to recognize all she has done for this community,” said Superintendent Jeni Gotto. “Through her entire career, including time on the Jeffco Board of Education, Nancy has shared that a strong school system is the backbone of a strong community.”
Another new twist to the “Candy Land" themed parade was combining elementary schools with high school clubs and organizations. “I think this approach connected all of the students in the district,” Gotto told members of the Board of Education during her report. There were a lot of smiles and camaraderie as third graders walked alongside high school students.”
