Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library Helps WPS Families Build Young Readers

WPS is proud to partner with the Westminster Rotary Club to serve as the local partner for Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library, helping to promote the program, enroll children, and fund the books and their delivery. Inspired by Parton’s belief that every child should have access to books, the free program helps families build home libraries and develop a love of reading from a child’s earliest years.

“Learning to read begins long before a child enters a classroom,” said Mat Aubuchon, WPS Executive Director of Learning Services. “When young children have access to books and adults read with them regularly, they build vocabulary, strengthen language skills, and develop the confidence they need to become successful readers. Imagination Library helps families establish those important habits early.”

Through the program, enrolled children receive a free, high-quality, age-appropriate book in the mail every month from birth until their fifth birthday. Each book is addressed to the child personally, making every delivery a special opportunity to read, learn, and spend time together as a family. Families may choose either the English collection or a fully bilingual English-Spanish collection. The bilingual option makes the program more accessible to WPS families while supporting language development, family engagement, and the district’s commitment to ensuring every child enters school ready to learn.

“Rotary’s motto is ‘Service Above Self,’ and this program puts that principle into action,” said Gary Cooper, Westminster Rotary member and chair of the club’s Imagination Library program. “Helping children develop a love of reading is one of the most meaningful investments we can make. Every book delivered to a child’s home opens the door to learning, imagination, and future opportunity.”

What began as Dolly Parton’s vision to inspire young readers is creating lasting opportunities for children right here in the WPS community.
