Colorado Sports Leadership Academy to Become Colorado Summit Leadership Academy

In a unanimous vote, the Westminster Public Schools Board of Education approved a proposal to rename Colorado Sports Leadership Academy. Beginning in the 2026 school year, the school will move forward under its new name: Colorado Summit Leadership Academy (CSLA).

The change reflects a broader and more accurate picture of what CSLA offers. When the school was opened as a PK-8 (formerly Scott Carpenter Middle School) the name was designed to introduce students to a variety of sports-related career pathways, including fields such as physical therapy, sports broadcasting, and marketing.

But over time, it became clear that the name was unintentionally limiting. Families whose children were not drawn to athletics often assumed the school focused narrowly on sports, even though its academic and leadership opportunities extended far beyond that.

“While the original concept was interesting and aligned with our community’s love of sports, the name didn’t resonate with families who wanted something more universal,” said Principal Lindsay Lohmann. “Colorado Summit Leadership Academy better represents our mission and the range of opportunities we provide.”

Despite the new name, some things will stay the same. The school will proudly keep its popular GOAT mascot, standing for “Greatest of All Time”, and will continue emphasizing values that define both strong academics and athletics: teamwork, hard work, persistence, and self-belief.

School officials say the name change is part of an ongoing effort to strengthen the school’s identity and better serve students. They emphasize that community input continues to play a key role in shaping the school’s path forward.

As Colorado Summit Leadership Academy prepares for its next chapter, families and community members are encouraged to share their thoughts and remain engaged in helping the school “reach new heights in education and life.”
