Bookmarks: To Kill a Mockingbird

As WPS heads into the holidays, we encourage everyone to make reading an important part of their winter vacation. A favorite and meaningful book is always a fantastic gift idea.

Carla Blue-Norton from the ELC at Gregory Hill recommends the classic novel, "To Kill a Mockingbird" by Harper Lee.

Carla writes, “I love this book because it is written from the perspective of Scout, a young girl. This book is well written and enjoyable to read. The story addresses disability and racism in interesting and meaningful ways. I enjoy rereading this book every few years.

Good Reads notes that the book has been translated into more than forty languages and sold more than forty million copies worldwide. Based on Lee’s memories of growing up in the South, it tells the story of a lawyer who risks everything to defend a black man unjustly accused of a crime. It is widely regarded as one of the best novels of the twentieth century.

This story was also made into a memorable movie starring Gregory Peck as Atticus Finch.
