Anthony Salazar’s Family Legacy Begins in the San Luis Valley and Carries on Around the World

As Westminster Public Schools celebrates Hispanic Heritage Month, the life story of Metropolitan Arts Academy teacher Anthony Salazar is the perfect example of a person’s love of family, heritage and education.

Coming from a family of educators, Salazar has been with WPS for eight years, and no one could be prouder of him and his accomplishments than his parents, Jose and Josie. Both came from the San Luis Valley where Jose was known far and wide as Senor Salazar to his students. Josie was the Assistant Principal at Ortega Middle School in Alamosa and later went on to teach in Chandler, Arizona.

They were both committed to the idea that education is the path out of poverty.

But that is only a part of the story.

The Salazar family traveled the world, reflecting the best in American values and leaving Anthony with a deep appreciation for all cultures.
