Dear Westminster Community,

 

Welcome to the first day of what I call the 100 Days of May.

 

This is a busy, exciting time for both staff and students as we juggle the demands of finishing up the current school year, while looking to the future.

 

It’s a month for reflection, retirements, and of course, graduation.

 

It's also a time to recognize extraordinary accomplishments. This week’s edition of What’s up WPS takes you to our annual Westminster High School Top Ten Breakfast and introduces you to our Westminster Elks’ Teachers of the Year.

 

All these students and teachers have something in common. They agree that education opens the doors of opportunity for everyone. It is the great equalizer in our society. It is certainly what I believe and why I entered this amazing profession almost 40 years ago.

 

As most of you are aware, this is my final May as Superintendent of Westminster Public Schools. I have begun to visit our schools to personally say thank you to staff and teachers and those who have given so much to our district and our children. Words, alone, cannot express my gratitude.

 

Speaking of words, I still have two graduation speeches to deliver to the class of 2024. Hidden Lake students will get their diplomas on May 23rd at the Ellie Caulkins Opera house and Westminster High School students graduate on May 24th at the Colorado Convention Center. While the day is all about the graduates, I hope to convey to these students what an honor it has been for me to be “their superintendent” during their education journey.

 

That’s the same message I hope to convey to you, the readers.
