WESTY BOYS' VOLLEYBALL WINS TWO CHAMPIONSHIPS
The Westminster High School (WHS) Boys’ Volleyball took the top prize at the George Washington Tournament on March 16th and the Mustang Stampede Invitational Tournament on April 6th. They have consistently beat out other teams in bracket play winning against Mullen, George Washington, Denver East, Thomas Jefferson, Centaurus, and Vail Christian for the championship wins.

A mash of hard work, commitment, and positivity is the secret to the team's success. Coach Justin Adcock explains, “This is a team of amazing young men who know how to go after every ball and fight for every point. They are representing Westminster proudly. Plus, it’s incredible to see our team rally against players who are sometimes 5 to 6 inches taller at the net.”

The team is on fire this season with a 12-4 record. This is impressive progress for a relatively young team only in their fourth year in the program, especially considering they compete in one of the most challenging 5A leagues statewide. Seniors Diego Sandoval and Cesar Martinez along with Sophomore Juan Gonzales are team standouts with massive attacks at the net against teams that reel from their hitting power. Westminster is currently ranked 24th out of 71 teams in the state.

The Wolves even saw one of the biggest come-back games in program history against Gateway while at home. The team was down 0-2 sets and rallied to win the next 3. The final set was a 16-14 win. “We fought hard and played hard,” proclaimed Senior Phong Tran, the team’s Libero. With two and a half weeks remaining in the season, the Westy Wolves have their sights set on playoffs. It’s a long road to state, but the team is in it to win it.

Boys’ volleyball is on the rise in Colorado, growing in popularity since it was introduced into CHSAA rotation less than a decade ago. At WHS the program is very popular, filling 3 teams – Varsity, JV, and C with eager players.

The Wolves hit the road for 5 games with their next home game scheduled on Thursday, April 25th against South High School (C Team at 4:30; JV at 5:30, and Varsity at 6:30). Come cheer on the Westy Wolves as they continue their outstanding season.
